Robert J. Butler, Jr. (Rob) offers 39 years of high-level financial leadership to the not-for-profit sector, bringing a unique perspective shaped by executive roles in higher education, "Big Four" public accounting, and governmental regulatory services.
Most recently, Rob served as the Interim Chief Financial Officer for Emerson College, where he led all accounting, budget, treasury, risk management, payroll, procurement, and financial systems functions. His deep institutional experience also includes serving as Controller for Brandeis University, with oversight of accounting and sponsored research.
Prior to his work in higher education, Rob was a Tax Managing Director at both KPMG and Grant Thornton. In these roles, he specialized in advising tax-exempt organizations on complex financial statement presentations and tax compliance matters.
Rob’s career began in public service as a financial investigator for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, working within the Public Protection Bureau’s Charities Division on both civil and criminal cases.
Today, Rob leverages this comprehensive 360-degree experience to provide strategic financial consulting, interim leadership, and regulatory guidance to not-for-profit organizations.
He is a licensed Massachusetts CPA and holds an MS in Taxation from Northeastern University and a BS in Business Administration from Merrimack College.
